The idea for Kumasi started when Lars Gierveld and Jochem Pinxteren made a documentary about the cocoa industry in West Africa. They investigated why there is still so much poverty, child labor and deforestation in West Africa, and saw the dark side behind our chocolate. But they also looked at how things could be done differently. They saw and tasted a great opportunity in a residual product of cocoa.

Our genesis is important to Kumasi. We continue to tell stories. For example, Kumasi is not only a new tasty drink, but our bottles are also a good reason for good conversations and (sometimes) heated discussions about the cocoa industry. Because things have to improve within the chocolate industry. We are often invited to panels, at schools and universities, and on radio and television broadcasts.
